Azores host Annual Conference of European Marine Science Educators Association in 2019
The Regional Director for Science and Technology revealed in Paris that the next annual conference of the European Marine Science Educators Association (EMSEA) will take place on São Miguel Island in October 2019.
"The Azores are a region tailored to the development of projects related to the sea," Bruno Pacheco said, adding that "the organisation of this event in the archipelago "makes perfect sense."
Bruno Pacheco spoke on the sidelines of the "Sea Change Celebration" in the context of the 2018 conference promoted by this European association. He welcomed the fact that the Living Science Agency accepted the proposal launched by the Regional Directorate for Science and Technology for the organisation of the next conference in the Azores.
The Regional Director emphasised that this conference "will strengthen the position" of the Azores towards the defence of oceans at international level, stressing that the archipelago is "an attractive venue" for this type of event.
Based in Belgium, EMSEA is an international non-profit organisation that promotes ocean literacy and brings together teachers and educators from European science centres and aquariums.
This event involves the participation of representatives of the European Commission and experts in ocean literacy from the European Union, USA, Canada and Brazil. It will address future strategies for the promotion of ocean literacy in a transatlantic context, which require a concerted action among all players.
