The Regional Directorate for Fisheries has convened a meeting of the Administration Board of Fundopesca on Friday, December 14, to analyse the criteria for activating this fund, taking into consideration the monitoring of fish unloaded in fish markets.
The Administration Board of Fundopesca is an advisory body made up of representatives of fishers, shipowners, Lotaçor and the Regional Secretariats for Social Solidarity and for the Sea, Science and Technology.
The Wage Compensation Fund of the Azores Fisheries Professionals, commonly designated as Fundopesca, was established in 2002 with the aim of providing a salary compensation to Azorean fishers when, in certain cases provided by law, are prevented from working.
The document regulating Fundopesca was amended in January 2016, stipulating income loss as a criterion for the activation of this financial mechanism designed to support fishing professionals.
The new legal framework has also reduced the period between the loss of income and the effective payment of wage compensation.
The Administration Board is responsible for evaluating the compliance with the criteria deemed necessary for the activation of this fund.
