Azorean fish promoted at Seafood Expo Global 2019 in Brussels

The Regional Director for Fisheries participates this week at the Seafood Expo Global 2019 in Brussels, the world's largest fish and shellfish trade event to be attended by some 26 thousand suppliers and buyers from 140 countries.

Under this event dedicated to fish trade running from May 7 to 9, Luís Rodrigues will meet with officials from the Earth Island Institute and the International Pole and Line Foundation.

"Promoting Azorean fish products and defending the positive discrimination of fisheries in the Region" are some of the goals of this meeting, stressed the Regional Director.

Luís Rodrigues defended that "it is necessary to continue investing in international markets by recognising the quality that distinguishes Azorean fish." According to him, "the Region must be able to position itself in high value markets for species such as bluefin tuna and bigeye tuna."

Knowing new technologies for the storage, conservation and transportation of fish is also one of the purposes of the Azorean presence at Seafood Expo Global.

The Regional Director also stated that this event will is an opportunity "to establish contacts with eventual partners of the international conference on the theme 'Management of Oceans and Marine Resources in Archipelagos,' which is being prepared by the Regional Directorate for Fisheries; the event is scheduled for October in the city of Horta."
