The implementation of regional policy measures in the fields of science and technology (S&T) in the Autonomous Region of the Azores is carried out by two entities - the Regional Directorate for Science and Technology (DRCT) and the Regional Fund for Science and Technology (FRCT); both are directly under the administration of the Regional Directorate for the Sea, Science and Technology (SRMCT).
For user convenience, the access to S&T web contents is available on the Science and Technology Portal, regardless of the entity responsible for their provision.
The FRCT is an entity endowed with autonomy regarding its administration, finances and assets. It is responsible for coordinating and managing financial resources in the context of the financing of scientific research and technological development.
The areas of action of the FRCT fall within the strategy pursued by the Regional Government of the Azores for the implementation of a R&D-based economic development axis, namely:
- Support advanced training through the awarding of different types of research grants;
- Finance and/or participate in the organisation of relevant international events for the scientific community;
- Finance and/or participate in regional, national and international projects as coordinator or partner;
-Support the participation of other regional entities, especially from the Azores Scientific and Technological System (SCTA), in external financing programmes, such as HORIZON 2020.
