International conference on marine policies takes place Thursday in Ponta Delgada
The Government of the Azores, through the Regional Fund for Science and Technology (FRCT) in partnership with the EurOcean Association, promotes the international conference on "Marine Research and Knowledge in support of Policy Making and Society. Deep Sea Research as a Case Study."
The event is dedicated to research and knowledge of the sea to support policy making, focusing on deep sea research as a case study. It brings together policy makers, scientists and representatives from various sectors involved in the management of marine and deep-sea areas, with the aim of disseminating the most recent scientific and technological developments in these matters.
With this initiative, the Regional Government intends to promote discussion and analysis as well as to propose and highlight strategies and measures. The goal is to ensure that scientific data and collection of information on the deep sea may be converted into knowledge and, consequently, contribute to the political decisions, with an impact on civil society.
This conference takes place under the EurOcean annual meeting and is open to the community in general.
The EurOcean Association, to which the Regional Government belongs, through FRCT, has the mission to collect, produce, organise and provide information on matters related to marine science and technology in Europe.
In this context, the Azores have been participating in various European projects, thus contributing to several international initiatives aimed at the implementation of a European Maritime Research Area and a common European maritime policy.
This conference, scheduled to start at 9 AM, will be attended by the Regional Director for Science and Technology, Bruno Pacheco, and the Regional Directorate for Sea Affairs, Filipe Porteiro.
