The Regional Inspectorate of Fisheries (IRP) is the service of the Regional Secretariat for the Sea, Science and Technology responsible for programming, coordinating and implementing, in collaboration with other entities and institutions, the supervision and monitoring of fishing activities in the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
The IRP is headquartered on the island of Faial and operates throughout the territory of the Autonomous Region of the Azores. It also has offices on the islands of São Miguel, Terceira and Pico.
The IRP is a service whose existence is essentially due to the growing need to protect fishery resources as a guarantee of an economic activity that ensures the welfare of many families.
Therefore, inspecting fisheries is a task that must always be linked to knowledge, information and communication among the key players of the fisheries sector.
