The Regional Secretary for the Sea, Science and Technology announced today that the Azores will include a private legal association in order to speed up the installation of the Atlantic International Research Center - AIR Center in partnership with the National Government.
Gui Menezes pointed out that the "involvement" of the Azores in this initiative, "as an Autonomous Region of its founding country, arises from the commitment to ensure that the headquarters of this international research centre should achieve a significant projection in terms of highly-skilled human resources and industry capacity in areas of interest within the AIR Center."
The Regional Secretary stated that this non-profit private legal association will be headquartered in Praia da Vitória on the island of Terceira. It will count on the initial participation of the Regional Fund for Science and Technology and its activities will focus on the management and finance in the area of science.
"The creation of this association is a decisive step towards the installation of the AIR Center," Gui Menezes stated, mentioning that it "will coordinate and manage the funding of investment for international scientific projects."
The Regional Secretary also revealed that the island of Terceira will host this year the first meeting of the Installing Committee, as defined in the Declaration of Florianópolis signed by the Government of the Azores in November 2017.
