The Regional Secretary for the Sea, Science and Technology, Fausto Brito e Abreu, will attend the EU Fisheries Council to take place in Luxembourg next Monday, October 10.
The agenda the EU Fisheries Council's meeting is focused on the position to be defended by the European Union in the next meeting of the Convention for the Conservation of North Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT), where the Region would certainly welcome the approval of restrictions on Fish Aggregation Devices (FAD); the latter are limiting the access of tuna shoals to the Azores Sea.
Fausto Brito e Abreu will be part of the national delegation led by the Minister of the Sea, Ana Paula Vitorino. He intends to address Commissioner Karmenu Vella on the sidelines of the EU Council to express the Regional Government's opposition to the proposal submitted by the European Commission regarding the cuts on the red seabream quotas allocated to the Azores in 2017 and 2018.
