POSEI Fisheries began to be paid to Azorean fishers this week, announced Brito e Abreu
The Regional Secretary for the Sea, Science and Technology announced in Praia da Vitória that the payment of POSEI Fisheries to Azorean fishers "started to be made this week."
Fausto Brito e Abreu spoke Friday at the opening of the headquarters of the Azores Fisheries Federation. He conveyed his satisfaction with the fact that the payment of support to Azorean fishers already started in September, as provided by the Regional Government.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Regional Secretary stressed the "fundamental role" of the Azores Fisheries Federation as "a crucial element in the context of Azorean fishing associations."
Brito e Abreu said the Government "recognises the work that has been developed by the Azores Fisheries Federation in the defence of the Region's fishing interests, whether in Mainland Portugal or abroad."
The Regional Secretary stressed that "the Federation has maintained a good dialogue with the Government in order to safeguard the sustainability of marine resources and defend a dignified life for all Azorean fishers."
Brito e Abreu also mentioned the Government's support "in the selection and provision of a physical space intended to promote the activities of the Fisheries Federation, adding that the new headquarters "will give it more dignity."
This space, transferred by Praia da Vitória City Hall, will also house the headquarters and the secretariat of the Regional Advisory Council for Outermost Regions (ORs AC).
Brito e Abreu welcomed the fact that this body will be headquartered in the Region, stating that it "places the Azores at the centre of the decision-making process for fisheries at European level."
