Regional Government assesses damages in ports and bathing areas caused by recent storms on Faial
The Regional Secretary for the Sea, Science and Technology visited the Varadouro port and swimming pool, the Comprido port and the Castelo Branco swimming pools on the island of Faial to learn about the damages caused by recent storms.
During the visit, Gui Menezes, who was accompanied by the presidents of the village councils of Capelo and Castelo Branco, stated that "the survey of the interventions deemed necessary is already under way."
In the case of Varadouro port, the intervention will cover the installation of new mooring bollards, including the steel structures that were damaged, and the placement of stones in the damaged rockfill of the protection wall near the fishing gear houses.
In the port located in the village of Castelo Branco, there were damages in the column of the crane and the necessary procedures for its repair and maintenance have already begun.
The Varadouro swimming pool suffered some damage, namely the stairway connecting the sundeck to the pool area, and some sections of the pavement were damaged by the sea.
The Comprido port in Capelinhos was also affected by the bad weather that hit the island in recent weeks. The pavement of a parking area section was destroyed by the sea forming a hole that uncovered an old wall and part of an old ramp.
In this case, Gui Menezes informed that the Government in conjunction with local authorities "will assess the type of intervention to be carried out."
