The Regional Government has launched the second edition of the competition to support the implementation of digital skills workshops in order to increase to 25 the number of workshops that make up this network that was created earlier this year.
This network is currently composed of a dozen workshops and was created following the implementation of the "ICT Skills and Digital Literacy" under the PRO-TIC Initiative. It is primarily aimed at promoting digital skills and information and communication technologies to address the needs of society in the digital age, namely in the STEM areas (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), Robotics and Programming.
The Regional Government intends to guarantee, through training, digital literacy and inclusion for the full exercise of citizenship under the e-Government tools. Moreover, stimulating the specialisation in digital technologies and applications for employment qualification and encouraging professional reorientation for information and communication technologies are also other goals of this measure.
As regards specifically the funding line now launched, the Regional Government aims to stimulate and reinforce digital skills in adult education and lifelong learning, focusing on advanced digital skills and literacy. Accordingly, training courses to be included in the new workshops should be oriented toward this goal.
Besides the implementation of digital skills workshops, the Regional Government has implemented a series of other measures to promote the teaching of code, programming and robotics, such as the Programming and Robotics Clubs, already implemented in 22 regional schools; their creation and operation represents an investment of nearly 120 thousand Euros.
The application form for the support to the implementation of digital skills workshops, whose deadline ends on June 28, is available at https://idia.azores.gov.pt/.
This initiative represents an investment over 400 thousand Euros for 2019-2021. The training courses on digital literacy and skills will take place during this three-year period.
