Regional Government launches tender for support to scientific publications

The Regional Secretary for the Sea, Science and Technology stated in Angra do Heroísmo that "the classification and the recognition of scientific research centres depend to a large degree on the annual production of publications."

Speaking during a visit to the Research for Agricultural Technologies of the Azores (CITA-A), Fausto Brito e Abreu announced the opening of a public tender to support scientific publications.
"This measure will contribute to the dissemination of scientific works produced in the Azores at an international level, being another way to financially support the costs associated to scientific production in our research centre," said Brito e Abreu.

The Regional Secretary for Science recalled researchers at the University of the Azores have an increasing number of publications listed in international databases, stressing that "the most prestigious international journals charge the authors of scientific articles a significant amount."

The tender, which starts Thursday, January 29, covers publications authored by researchers of the University of the Azores and other scientific research units that are part of the Azores Scientific and Technological System. Researchers may apply until June 15 at the platform http://idia.azores.gov. This support measure provides a total investment of 50 thousand Euros.

During his visit to CITA-A, the Regional Secretary for the Sea, Science and Technology acknowledged the "importance" of this research centre in the area of agricultural sciences and the environment. In this context, the government official highlighted "its ability to build bridges between science and the business world as well as its special connection to one of the axes of the Strategy for the Smart Specialisation of the Region - Agriculture and Agro-industry."

Currently, there are 35 researchers conducting relevant and applied scientific research at CITA-A, focusing on the fields of production, fodder production and conservation, soil fertility, animal reproduction, animal nutrition, biotechnology and food technology.
