The Regional Director for Communities welcomed the First Secretary and Consul of the Australian Embassy in Lisbon, Marc Adorni-Braccesi, at an audience held in Angra do Heroísmo on Thursday.
According to Maria da Graça Castanho, the consul will be visiting four Azorean islands to meet the Australians living in the archipelago - about a dozen - and assess their integration in the society and the possible need for support from the Embassy.
At the meeting, Marc Adorni-Braccesi requested the cooperation of the Regional Directorate for Communities to serve as intermediary in the monitoring of the Australian community in the archipelago.
The consul also highlighted the effort that Australia is undertaking in the promotion of Portuguese Language in that country, thus recognising its importance in the global context – the third most spoken European language in the world.
