Regional Director for Prevention and Control of Dependencies highlights society-based projects
The Regional Director for Prevention and Control of Dependencies stressed in Angra do Heroísmo the importance of developing society-based projects, in cooperation and coordination with the Government's action, in the areas of health promotion and disease prevention, considering that "we do nothing alone."
Suzete Frias pointed out, as example, the intervention of Angra do Heroísmo City Council, the "Casa do Povo" of Santa Bárbara (Community Centre) on Terceira Island and Arisco -Association for Social and Health Promotion as well as the role of PSP (Public Security Police) and School Health Teams. According to her, these cooperation efforts already embody the local intervention networks, which will be launched soon.
The Regional Director spoke at the signing of the protocol between the "Casa do Povo" of Santa Bárbara and Arisco in the scope of Âncora - Operational Plan for Integrated Responses for Dependencies and Health Promotion in the Municipality of Angra do Heroísmo.
This project is developed by the "Casa do Povo" of Santa Bárbara under the guidance of the Social Entrepreneurship Centre, through the Health Promotion Centre. Its intervention is focused on children, young people and their families in the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo with the aim of preventing risk behaviours.
These actions will be mainly directed to the development of young people's socio-emotional skills, which Suzete Frias has designated as a "survival kit." As she noted, they "determine the relation with the world and with their own identity," contributing to the choice of healthy practices and, thus, to the reduction of the prevalence and harmful consequences of dependencies in the future.
The event also included the presentation of the Preventing in Collection project, which will begin a new cycle of implementation at Angra do Heroísmo schools.
Aimed at children from 6 to 10 years of age, this programme uses playful materials to address fundamental issues regarding the promotion of healthy lifestyles, personal and social development, and an active attitude in change and decision-making.
With action and reflection, the Preventing in Collection programme focuses simultaneously on citizenship and the prevention of risk behaviours.
