Health Unit reorganises provision of care on Pico Island under its Contingency Plan
The Pico Island Health Unit will reorganise its activity from 12 am on Wednesday, April 1, as part of its Contingency Plan, maintaining the provision of care to the population of the island's three municipalities.
This reorganisation, decided after hearing the mayors of the three municipalities, results from the fact that several of their professionals are under mandatory quarantine following direct contact with confirmed cases of infection with COVID-19.
Hence, according to the provisions of the Contingency Plan of Pico Island Health Unit, the provision of preventive, curative and palliative care will be separated from urgent care in order to safeguard the quality and safety of the service.
The Health Centres of Lajes do Pico, Madalena and São Roque do Pico will, thus, maintain the minimum services, guaranteeing the continuity of preventive, curative and palliative care to the population in all other situations of disease as well as health surveillance and monitoring actions.
Urgent care will be provided at Madalena Health Centre by two doctors and three nurses during the day and one doctor at night.
In urgent care, patients with respiratory and/or digestive viral symptoms will be separated from the remaining acute diseases and referred to a specific access rout to the isolation area.
This reorganisation will contribute to the rotating management of human resources, with alternate periods of service and a 14-day absence period, ensuring the readiness of professionals.
The Pico Island Health Unit has reinforced the distance communication channels for health users, providing medical assistance lines that operate from Monday to Friday between 9 am and 12 pm - 292 679 405 (Lajes), 292 241 670 (Madalena) and 292 648 082 (São Roque).
The SOS Psychology Line is also available from Monday to Friday between 9 am and 1 pm - 292 241 661.
