Regional Directorate for Health creates tool to assess risk of developing diabetes
The Regional Directorate for Health is creating a tool to assess the risk of developing diabetes, announced the Regional Director.
"As developed by the Directorate-General of Health with the Shared Services of the Ministry of Health, we have also created a questionnaire based on the "type 2 diabetes mellitus" integrated care process so that any citizen can assess their risk of developing diabetes," said Tiago Lopes.
The Regional Director spoke at the opening of "Understanding Diabetes: from prevention to control" in Praia da Vitória, an initiative organised by the Training Centre of Terceira Health Unit. On the occasion, he stressed that, besides the screening of the population, this tool will be primarily focused on the prevention of diabetes through early diagnosis based on disease risk screening.
"Following the redesign of the Regional Directorate for Health page, any citizen, upon accessing the page, has the possibility of completing the questionnaire. The risk of developing diabetes is then assessed, ranging from risk of developing diabetes is then assessed, ranging from Low, Moderate, High or Very High," said the Regional Director.
According to Tiago Lopes, the special feature of this tool lies in the possibility of asking patients when the risk of developing diabetes is assessed as Moderate, High or Very High to share the information with their Health Centres and to schedule a consultation; if so, the respective Island Health Unit will be notified.
This is another valid resource intended to promote the proximity between the population and the Regional Health Service.
