Azores Civil Protection mobile app to be available in English, announces Rui Luís
The Regional Secretary for Health announced in Angra do Heroísmo that the "Prociv Azores" mobile app will be available in English within three months.
According to Rui Luís, this is justified given the scope of the target audience. It provides useful information on disaster situations and the "increase of tourism in the Azores requires an application on the islands subject to disasters so that those visiting the islands may be prepared for these phenomena."
This application, launched a year ago only in Portuguese, already registered about 1,900 downloads.
The Secretariat for Health spoke on the sidelines of a visit to the premises of the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service (SRPCBA), which marked today the World Civil Defence Day with several activities dedicated to young people.
In his speech, Rui Luís praised the role of professionals, civilian and military, and the volunteers serving in the Civil Protection services on the nine islands.
"We need more volunteers. I would like to urge young people to embrace this area so that may dedicate themselves to volunteering, which is something very noble in the Azores," said the government official.
During the visit to the exhibitors of different entities, Rui Luís was accompanied by the Regional Director for Health, Tânia Cortez, and the President of SRPCBA, Carlos Neves, who pointed out that this date is important to raise awareness for Civil Protection, through activities and demonstrations.
During the day, 600 children attending elementary and middle school in the municipalities of Angra do Heroísmo and Praia da Vitória are expected to visit Civil Protection services.
The exhibitors and entities featured at the event include Fire Brigades, Municipal Civil Protection Services, Maritime Authorities, the Azores Military Zone Command, Red Cross and National Republican Guard.
