SRPCBA's first round of training for Civil Protection agents covered more than 400 participants
The first cycle of training promoted by the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service (SRPCBA) included courses on "Civil Protection Emergency Planning and Municipal Management" and the awareness-raising actions "Civil Protection and Local Power." It covered about 450 participants in 2018 and 2019.
“The commitment to training and awareness raising in these areas is quite relevant to Civil Protection agents,” the President of SRPCBA said, adding that “it enables agents, in a controlled environment, to train decision-making and to plan their actions, as if they were real situations.”
Hence, according to Carlos Neves, the conditions are created for “a better performance to solve actual situations.”
These initiatives, pioneers in the Region, involved Civil Protection agents from the 19 municipalities of the Azores, namely members of Municipal Civil Protection Commissions (CMPC).
The 13 courses on "Civil Protection Emergency Planning and Municipal Management" have provided trainees with theoretical and practical knowledge that will enable them to develop skills in Civil Protection emergency management at municipal level. Additionally, they be able to contextualise the development of contingency plans in planning processes as well as to interpret and apply the technical standards and criteria for the preparation and implementation of Civil Protection Emergency Plans.
In turn, the 12 awareness-raising actions on "Civil Protection and Local Power" were intended to provide participants with knowledge about the Civil Protection system, namely the competences and responsibilities assigned to Civil Protection Municipal Services and Local Units.
After this first cycle of courses and awareness-raising actions for Civil Protection agents, which ended last week, the SRPCBA is preparing a new cycle comprising new actions under the same scope to be held next year.
