The Regional Secretary for Health announced today in Praia da Vitória that the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service will provide, from March 21, an application for smartphones featuring the basic and necessary information on civil protection
Speaking at the opening of the activities marking the World Civil Defence Day, Luís Cabral added that this application will allow Azorean citizens "to consult the Civil Protection portal and register their personal data, which, in case of accident, will provide a more adequate response to the clinical needs of citizens."
"PROCIV Azores" will also send useful information to the population in situations of disaster, providing information on the level of awareness of different situations," added the government official.
In his speech, the Regional Secretary highlighted the work carried out by the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service, mentioning that the number of training courses has gradually increased over the years.
"In January 2016, we carried out 15 awareness activities in various schools throughout the Region, involving nearly 600 participants," said Luís Cabral.
The World Civil Defence Day is marked on March 1 around the world. The Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service took the opportunity to gather all entities with responsibility in this area. The initiative aims to encourage the community to adopt a culture of prevention and to know how to act in adverse situations.
"It is true that the Azorean population is increasingly aware of the preventive measures to be taken in adverse situations. It is also true that this is only possible due to the excellent prevention, awareness and training policies that Civil Protection agents pursue in the Region," says Luís Cabral.
