Government of the Azores fulfils commitment to reopen Piedade Medical Office on Pico
The Regional Secretary for Health stated today that the reopening of Piedade Medical Office in the municipality of Lajes do Pico fulfils a commitment taken by the Government of the Azores with the island's population.
"The reopening of the medical consultation office in Piedade was an ambition of the population since its closure about a year ago. About 25% of the population residing in Lajes do Pico will have the possibility of benefiting from medical consultations twice a week," said Rui Luís.
The Secretary for Health spoke on the sidelines of a visit to this office. On the occasion, he pointed out that, in addition to consultations in the area of general practice and family medicine, it also provides daily nursing care. Moreover, there is an also a technician to assist the population in scheduling consultations and examinations to be held on-site as well as at Lajes do Pico Health Centre.
The Piedade Medical Office, located next to RIAC office, arises from the partnership with Lajes do Pico Town Hall. It will be temporarily installed in this place until the restructuring works of Piedade Philharmonic building are completed, where health services will be then transferred.
The villages of Calheta, Piedade and Ribeirinha are the most benefited by the new office as they are geographically farther away from Lajes do Pico Health Centre.
