The Regional Secretary for Health stated in Ponta Delgada that the Regional Health Service "plans" to continue to hire more nurses. According to him, “hiring of nurses is regarded as an investment rather than a cost" to the extent that "it contributes to the reduction of costs, mainly for the role of nurses in prevention."
Speaking Saturday on the sidelines of the graduation ceremony of the 13th Nursing Course, Luís Cabral noted that the hiring of nurses ensures "better health care."
The Regional Secretary also highlighted the differentiation regarding the areas of expertise of nurses as well as their “vocation to provide home care and proximity care."
Therefore, Luís Cabral stressed the "key role" of nurses in the provision of primary health care, especially in the prevention component, "which is another to invest in the hiring of health professionals in this area."
The Regional Secretary for Health reiterated the importance of the agreement with the Nurses' Association, which will allow provide Regional Health Units with the necessary number of nurses to ensure "the provision of a better response from these units to patients."
The Regional Secretary for Health stressed the fact that the hiring of nurses in 2014 and the expected hiring for 2015 add up to more than 200 jobs in the Regional Health Service.
