Medical Interns Days of Madeira and Azores to be held in November on São Miguel Island
The Regional Secretary for Health announced today that the 2nd Medical Intern Days of Madeira and Azores will be held on the island of São Miguel on November 8 and 9.
"After the opening of the first Days in Madeira, the debate took effect with the proposal of mechanisms for the maintenance of doctors in both regions and the decision to continue this initiative," said Rui Luís, who spoke at the opening of the meeting "Breath of the Atlantic" in Angra do Heroísmo.
This scientific meeting, which brings together doctors from both Autonomous Regions, is the result of an agreement signed between the two regional governments at the beginning of last year. The first edition was held in Funchal and addressed the incentives for the maintenance of doctors.
In his speech at the opening of this meeting on sleep disorders, Rui Luís stated that "there are no closed debates in health, research and science but rather continuous debates, which is a sign of progress and evolution."
In this context, he recalled the risk factors related to syndromes, such as sleep apnoea, and the need to combat them, pointing out that obesity is one of the main causes.
"When looking at the effects, as the head of the health department, I must point out that the word "prevention" also fits in these pathologies," stressed the Regional Secretary.
Rui Luís stressed that the Regional Health Secretariat is preparing, together with the Regional Secretariat for Education, a programme to promote healthy eating that will be implemented in schools at the start of the next school year.
