National Trauma and Extrication Championship confers prestige to the Azores, says Rui Luís
The Regional Secretary for Health highlighted today the prestige and visibility that the National Trauma and Extrication Championship confers to the Azores. The event takes place in Praia da Vitória between May 17 and 19.
"This is a high-level competition that will mobilise 25 teams from all over the country. Their participation will contribute to the improvement of techniques and skills in the relief provided to victims," said Rui Luis, who spoke at the presentation of the event in Praia da Vitoria.
The competition will feature the participation of 16 Trauma teams, among them four Azorean teams, and nine Extrication teams, involving about three hundred people. The best teams will be selected to be compete in the World Trauma Championship to be held in France in September.
"It is an honour for the Region to be the venue of this event. The initiative is organised by the National Rescue and Extrication Association and by the Praia da Vitória Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters with the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service," said Rui Luís.
For the government official, this event reflects the investment that has been made in the training of regional fire brigades and the results achieved by Azorean teams at national and international level.
"I would like to recall the results achieved by the Trauma team of Praia da Vitória Association of Volunteer Firefighters. They won the World Cup in Romania in 2017 and were World Cup runners-up in 2018 in a competition held in South Africa," stated the government official.
Rui Luís also stressed the opportunity provided by this competition as far as participants will have the possibility to evaluate techniques and to use the tools they would normally use in actual rescue situations.
During the two-day competition, there will be also an exhibition showcasing innovative equipment, tools and uniforms used by fire brigades.
