Regional Government to create support programme for families of users with addiction problems
The Regional Secretary for Health stated in Ponta Delgada that the Government of the Azores intends to create a support programme for families dealing with the problem of addiction.
Rui Luís spoke at the opening of the international conference on "Substance consumption and Addictive Behaviour - Old and New Challenges." He stressed that the aims is "to create a programme and coordinate, together with the departments responsible for employment and social solidarity, reintegration systems for these citizens."
For Rui Luís, who spoke on behalf of the President of the Government, it is still important to evaluate the implementation of policies and programmes in this area. Hence, we intend to propose the implementation of a mechanism for the period monitoring of the evolution of behaviour dependencies and act in a timely manner.
The Regional Secretary mentioned that the Government will invest in the prevention, deterrence, treatment and harm reduction, adding that schools are regarded as a privileged means to implement a policy of prevention.
"It is fundamental to consolidate the area of intervention regarding health promotion at school as well as the establishment of partnerships with other institutions from a perspective of complementarity, pursuing a policy of proximity in the prevention and treatment of addictions," said Rui Luís.
