Rui Luís admits possibility of implementing pioneer physical exercise project for women with breast cancer
The Regional Secretary for Health highlighted in Ponta Delgada the importance of physical activity in the recovery of mastectomised cancer patients, stressing that it allows a new dynamic in the life and increased well-being among patients.
"We know that physical exercise is important for monitoring the health status of these women and, as such, it brings them a new dynamics in their lives and increased well-being, which boost their productivity and reduces fatigue," said Rui Luís. He spoke at the closing session of the first group participating in the "Exercising" project, an initiative developed by several professionals led by Marisa Lobão.
It is a physical exercise programme for patients with breast cancer, based on volunteering, which covers three classes. Sessions are guided by Physical Education teachers and take place at Colégio do Castanheiro School in Ponta Delgada.
"This is a pilot project that runs for six months. There are three groups consisting of five women each, a total of 15 women, who will be evaluated psychologically at the beginning and end of the project so that the results may be analysed," stressed the government official.
Depending on the conclusions of this project, which will be submitted at the end of the first semester, Rui Luís admits to implementing this programme in the Region in a sustainable manner, calling for corporate social responsibility in its accomplishment.
"At an early stage of the project, it is fundamental to alert entrepreneurs so that they may excuse these women to participate in this activity," the Regional Secretary said, adding that will certainly "acknowledge this measure as it will boost the productivity of female employees."
