Rui Luís defends proximity policy and support to families and informal caregivers

The Regional Secretary for Health accompanied a home care team of Praia da Vitória Health Centre. This initiative intended to mark the World Day of the Sick, emphasising the importance of a proximity policy and support to families and informal caregivers.

"It is necessary to create conditions so that health professionals may provide increasingly better health care to patients in their homes," said Rui Luís. The government official spoke as he followed the activities carried out by the team that provides health care to patients living in the villages of Fonte do Bastardo and Lajes.

According to the Secretary for Health, "the important role of home care service teams of Health Centres, mainly composed of nurses, is not only focused on the provision of specific health care to patients, but also on the promotion of healthy lifestyles, through the actions they develop with patients and their families."

Rui Luís, who was accompanied by the Regional Director for Health, Tânia Cortez, conveyed his satisfaction with the performance of health professionals. In this regard, he also emphasised the coordination with continuing care networks and with the teams responsible for managing hospital discharges in order to allow the continuity of the care provided to patients.
