Support system for clinical decision to "ensure updating and safety of medical assistance," assures Luís Cabral

The Regional Secretary for Health assured today that the development of a technological platform to support clinical decision will "guarantee that users receive proper treatment from a scientific perspective, while ensuring "the update and safety of medical assistance."

Luís Cabral spoke at the end of the signing ceremony of a protocol with the Centre for Evidence Based Medicine (CEMBE) of the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon and MedicineOne, Life Sciences Computing for the development of that platform in the Regional Health Service (SRS).

According to Luís Cabral, "this measure to benefit the Azorean population" is possible, since it will combine "the academic knowledge of the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon with the scientific and technical knowledge of MedicineOne."

For the Regional Secretary, this platform will provide doctors with a computer support system in the treatment of various diseases, ensuring "the most modern scientific knowledge" for the follow-up of patients, in addition to helping doctors doctor in real time while the consultation is being carried out.

"We are ensuring that the treatment and follow-up of patients in the Regional Health Service is appropriate and scientifically validated," said Luís Cabral.

The type of care for each of condition will be loaded on the computer platform already in use at health regional centres, which will warn doctors about the recommended frequency for the monitoring of patients, the tests that should carried out and the prescription of most appropriate medication according to the results of tests.

The measure implemented by the Regional Secretariat for Health meets several goals set out in the Programme of the Regional Government, such as the access of health professionals to the medical files of any citizens at any Health Unit of the Regional Health Service and the implementation of programmes for the integrated management of diseases; the latter is focused on the major causes of mortality and morbidity in the Region, including oncologic diseases, diabetes, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases.
