Travel of patients and medical specialists is priority for the Regional Secretary for Health

The Regional Secretary for Health stated in Ponta Delgada that he is committed to overcoming the situation regarding the displacement of patients and medical specialists.

Rui Luís spoke Monday at the inauguration ceremony of the Regional Board of the Portuguese Medical Association. The government official stressed the need to coordinate strategies with this professional association in order "to define attractive measures for the maintenance of doctors, through the accreditation of training, recognition of regional specificities and opening of medical internship vacancies."

In his speech, Rui Luís also highlighted the need to improve organisational levels in the Regional Health Service, considering that "bureaucracy cannot lock systems; process efficiency should prevail."

According to the Regional Secretary, it is important to improve the coordination of public and private health organisations, improve the use of resources and promote transparency.

Rui Luís also highlighted his role in the promotion of a dialogue that "favours consensus in order to find the best solutions for the definition and implementation of better policies in the Regional Health Service."

The Regional Secretary said the Regional Health Service is constantly "changing and updating," adding that "there is much to do and improve."

The inauguration ceremony of the Regional Board, chaired by Isabel Cássio, was attended by the President of the Portuguese Medical Association. At the occasion, the Regional Secretary for Health restated his intention to invest in training, training accreditation and incentive systems for the maintenance of excellent professionals in the Region.
