Works at Velas Health Centre on S. Jorge Island resume this week, announces Regional Secretary for Health
The Regional Secretary for Health announced that the refurbishment and improvement works at the Velas Health Centre on São Jorge Island will resume this week, seeing that “safety conditions are already met in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
For Teresa Machado Luciano, "after six weeks without diagnosed cases and the relaxation of the restrictive measures on this island, it is time to resume the works that will improve health care conditions for users and professionals."
“With this investment of more than 1.5 million Euros, we will improve the conditions of the Continuing Care Unit, provide the Basic Emergency Unit with a screening space and increase the response capacity of the Inpatient Service and Physical Therapy services," said the Secretary for Health.
The works in progress also include the installation of a new electrical network for the entire building and a fire safety system as well as the structural reinforcement of the building.
The government official also pointed out that this investment falls within the “project for the overall improvement of health care provided to São Jorge islanders, as evidenced by the opening of the new building and the remodelled facilities of Calheta Health Centre last January."
The works at the Velas Health Center were temporarily suspended in mid-April, taking into account the need to protect the health of workers and the population in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
