Government of the Azores has invested 2.3 million Euros in housing support in the municipality of Lagoa
The Regional Director for Housing stated in Lagoa that the Regional Government has already invested nearly 2.3 million Euros under various forms of housing support measures since the beginning of the legislative period, thus contributing to the improvement of the housing conditions of 280 families in this municipality.
Carlos Faias spoke the awarding ceremony for the allocation of support to degraded housing. The government official stressed the priority status the Regional Government has awarded to social support for families, namely with regard to housing policies, pointing out the importance of establishing partnerships with local entities.
"The Azorean Government has undertaken a great effort to achieve a consensus with local entities so that, with the same investment effort, we may reach more families," Carlos Faias said, stressing that this is the only way to ensure the necessary support to a wider number of families.
During the ceremony, the Government provided 22 support measures for the recovery of degraded housing; 10 of which will be managed by the "Santa Casa da Misericórdia" of Santo António and are directed to the houses damaged by the storm that hit the Region in December 2015. Moreover, four measures fall within a protocol signed between the Region, the municipality of Lagoa and the Village Council of Santa Cruz. They are intended to relocate families in situations of severe housing shortage.
Representing a Government's investment of about 200 thousand Euros, these support measures will improve the housing conditions of 22 families, covering more than 80 people.
In his speech, Carlos Faias stressed that a new period for submission of applications to the recovery of degraded housing opened today and runs until July 31.
Applications may be submitted at the Regional Directorate for Housing, local Housing Services and at RIAC offices (Integrated Network for Citizen Support). They may also be sent by regular mail or emailed to [email protected].
