The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity, through the Regional Directorate for Housing, organised in Angra do Heroísmo a public draw for the awarding of 13 one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments, following the tender procedure for the transfer of 48 apartments in the Neighbourhood of Canada do Breado on a sublease scheme with purchase option.
These houses will address the permanent housing needs of families who, despite their level of income, have difficulties in accessing the free housing market.
It consists of a set of apartments that the Institute for Housing and Urban Rehabilitation leased to the Government of the Azores. These dwellings were put to tender, like other tenders previously launched, such as 33 dwellings in S. Pedro Neighbourhood, village of Maia, 17 apartments located in Edifício da Rotunda in Ribeira Seca and 60 apartments in Neighbourhood of Quinta do Castanheiro.
The Region will pay a monthly sum of 5,010 Euros for these 13 apartments, representing an annual investment of 60 thousand Euros.
On average, the lease amount for one-bedroom apartments is set at 297.31 Euros, 378.20 Euros for two-bedroom apartments and 465.22 Euros for three-bedroom apartments.
Families will benefit from a subsidy that will vary between 15% and 35% of the lease amount, reaching on average 28%. The Regional Government will award a monthly rent subsidy, amounting to 1,395 Euros, to support families with housing costs.
The public support awarded to these families will lead to annual savings of about 167.50 Euros, supported by the Regional Government, thus allowing them to increase their disposable income.
The rent was subsidised in accordance with the rules of the application, including the effort rate of households and their characteristics. Priority status will be given to young families, single-parent families and families with disabled members. The subsidized amount cannot exceed 65% of the monthly rent supported by the Region.
The amount of the rents paid by families will be taken into consideration at the time when the family decides to purchase the apartment.
The purchase option apartment can be exercised at any time, provided that within one year after the date of the signing of the sublease contract.
