Regional Government already invested more than 800 thousand Euros in the recovery of termite-infested homes, says Regional Director
The Regional Director for Housing stated in Angra do Heroísmo that the Regional Government "is committed to controlling termite infestations," noting that "more than 800 thousand Euros have already been invested in this area in the current legislative period."
Orlando Goulart stressed that this problem is mostly reported in the urban centres of Ponta Delgada on S. Miguel Island and Angra do Heroísmo on Terceira Island.
In this context, he mentioned that the Regional Government "has implemented, since 2010, a support programme establishing measures to control and eradicate termite infestations as well as the legal scheme on the granting of financial support for the extermination of termites and the repair of buildings damaged by this pest."
The Regional Director spoke at the ceremony authorising the granting of support for the rehabilitation of degraded housing and termite-infested housing. This measure will benefit 37 families on Terceira Island, representing an investment of 461 thousand Euros "solely funded from the regional budget."
"We are basically giving back to the Azoreans, especially those who need it most, the contribution they have made to the Region," added the government official.
Regarding the 800 thousand Euros invested over the last three years in the recovery of termite-infested homes, 500 thousand Euros correspond to authorised applications from Terceira Island.
"We have been carrying out this procedure on all island every year, an ongoing effort to improve the housing conditions of the Azorean population," said Orlando Goulart.
