Regional Government invests over 200 thousand Euros in improving the housing conditions of families on São Jorge
The Regional Director for Housing, Carlos Faias, allocated today two houses on São Jorge, which represented an investment over 200 thousand Euros that will improve the housing conditions of two families from this island.
One of the houses allocated today is a new construction home and the other one underwent renovation works. Both families hold a government-supported lease contract; the monthly rent is calculated in accordance with the social and economic situation of these families.
The contract works for the construction and rehabilitation of the two houses, which belong to the Region's social housing stock, were awarded to construction companies, following a direct adjustment procedure.
In the current legislative period, a total of 184 procedures were already authorised on São Jorge under several housing support programmes, corresponding to an overall public investment of about two million Euros.
With these initiatives aimed at the benefit of Azorean families, the Regional Government, in addition to improving housing conditions, contributes to the maintenance of population in their area of residence and, simultaneously, prevents the abandonment of rural villages.
