The Government of the Azores, through the Regional Directorate for Housing and the Azores Social Security Institute, is monitoring the situation of residents affected by the landslide that occurred Thursday in the village of Ribeiras, municipality of Lajes do Pico.
In close cooperation with local authorities, five families were provisionally rehoused, making up a total of 16 people. Their dwellings are located close to the area where the landslide occurred or to which the access is conditional.
The temporary relocation of families, either in relatives' homes or in homes provided by local Welfare services will be maintained until the situation is resolved and until there is a guarantee that it no longer poses danger to the population.
During today's afternoon, the Regional Director for Housing will be on the site, together the Mayor of Lajes do Pico and the President of the Village Council of Ribeiras, to follow up the visit of technicians from the Regional Civil Engineering Laboratory for a new assessment of the situation and any immediate risks.
