Government praises work developed by institution in the support of children and youngsters
The Government of the Azores, through the Regional Director for Solidarity and Social Security, praised the ongoing work that is being developed by the Nossa Senhora do Livramento Brotherhood in supporting children and youngsters from Angra do Heroísmo.
Speaking at the ceremony to celebrate the 158th anniversary of the institution that took place in Angra do Heroísmo on Thursday night, Natércia Gaspar stressed on behalf of the President of the Government, Carlos César, the historical role played by the brotherhood in supporting disadvantaged children and youngsters as well as its ability “to adapt to new times despite its age.”
This path is being followed “at the level of new methodologies and of the current context.”
The current board of the institution has shown commitment in promoting the necessary conditions “to create a successful life project for the youngsters” who are sheltered there.
The Regional Director added that the project, which has been supported by the Regional Government, also intends to create the necessary conditions, “whether in terms of human resources or of the existing resources,” to accommodate other children in need.
The Government has invested this year 300 thousand Euros in the renewal of the male residences and a comprehensive intervention to be undertaken at the brotherhood premises, where the female residences and several support services are installed, is at a project phase, being financially supported by the Azorean Government.
The Nossa Senhora do Livramento Brotherhood shelters nearly seventy children and youngsters of both sexes, some of whom are already enrolled in higher education, which is a milestone for the work developed by this institution.
