Government of the Azores creates local development structure in the municipality of Lagoa
The Regional Secretariat for Social Solidarity, through the Azores Social Security Institute, signed today a protocol for the establishment of the Local Activity and Territorial Social Intervention Centre and the Territorial Development Centre in the municipality of Lagoa.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Regional Director for Social Solidarity stressed that the work in Social Solidarity must be regarded as a series of active social political measures to foster an extended partnership.
For Frederico Sousa, this work "plays an important role in promoting social cohesion and well-being of the population, insofar as it contributes to the collective awareness of social issues, the optimisation of intervention resources for islands, municipalities and villages, and to the implementation of necessary responses."
The protocol signed today, which includes the participation of public and private entities, includes 24 partners that develop their activity in the municipality of Lagoa. It follows the activities developed by the Regional Network of Local Development and Social Cohesion Centre with the aim of carrying out a territorial, integrated and systemic approach towards community-based local development.
"In this context, the Government of the Azores implements the Local Development and Social Cohesion Centre to promote an innovative model of shared governance at local level, while encouraging the active participation of communities, people and local institutions so that territories may become a space designed and built for all," said Frederico Sousa.
