Regional Government supports domestic violence prevention campaign during 2014 Sanjoaninas
In the context of a cooperation protocol with the Regional Directorate for Social Solidarity, the Centre for Prevention Initiatives and Combat to Domestic Violence at the "Santa Casa da Misericórdia" of Praia da Vitória will promote a domestic violence prevention campaign on the island of Terceira. Held under the theme “Family is the most valuable Heritage," the campaign will take place during the 2014 Sanjoaninas (St. John) festivities.
The campaign's motto is based on the theme of 2014 Sanjoaninas - "30 years as World Heritage." It aims to intended to raise the awareness of the public to the fact that abuse, whether physical, psychological, sexual, virtual and economic may not only the victims of the relationship, but also the people with whom they are related to, whether it be relatives, friends or work colleagues.
In this regard, the campaign's message will be disseminated through several materials and activities related to the theme; they are target at audiences of various age levels.
On the first day of the festival, Thursday, the Centre has collaborated with the Intergenerational march, organised by Salão Teatro Praiense Association, for the distribution of flowers and messages on the prevention of elder abuse.
On Saturday, June 21, the first 100 people who purchase a wristband for the concert by singer Anselmo Ralph will get the message "Grab this challenge. Build Healthy Love" under the campaign to prevent dating violence.
On St. John's Eve, from June 23 to 24, a total of colourful paper flowers containing messages related to the campaign will be distributed by the beneficiaries and collaborators of Solisvita Shelter.
On 27 June, 500 colourful flags with drawings and messages targeted at children will be delivered during the "king of the Jungle" parade.
The programme will be held throughout the week. It includes several psycho-educational workshops in direct partnership with the Education Department of Angra do Heroísmo Museum, designated as "Manjericos do Amor" (Basil of love). With this activity, children and youngsters will have the opportunity to learn about the origins of popular festivities and, simultaneously, address healthy emotional relationships.
