Regional Secretariat for Social Solidarity promotes 2nd edition of "Journalism against Domestic Violence" contest
The Regional Secretariat for Social Solidarity, through the Regional Directorate for Social Solidarity, promotes the second edition of the "Journalism Against Domestic Violence" contest. The initiative falls within the scope of the 2nd Regional Plan for Prevention and Combat to Domestic and Gender Violence (PRPCVDG) and aims to distinguish the best media work on this type of violence.
The organisation of this second edition was released today by the Regional Director for Social Solidarity, Marta Bulhões, on the sidelines of a visit to the Local Centre for Prevention and Combat to Domestic Violence on Pico Island, which is operating in partnership with "Santa Casa da Misericórdia" of Lajes do Pico.
The contest will distinguish, at regional level, the best work on domestic and gender violence and discrimination, as a contribution to raise awareness and encourage the approach to these issues. Moreover, it also intends to acknowledge the involvement of regional media professional in the prevention and fight against domestic violence as well as in the promotion of gender equality and non-discrimination.
Participants may submit journalistic works and other original media contents on paper, audio or digital format broadcast on the media during the 2nd Regional Plan for Prevention and Combat to Domestic and Gender Violence, running from January 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018.
The jury of this second edition is composed of the following members: Maria da Luz Ferreira Abreu de Sousa Correia, director of the Course on Communication and Public Relations at the University of the Azores, Ricardo Goulart Reis, creative, Rui Caria, photojournalist, a representative of the Centre of Initiatives for Prevention and Combat to Domestic Violence of "Santa Casa da Misericórdia da Praia da Vitória" and a representative of the Regional Directorate for Social Solidarity.
