Andreia Cardoso says new support programme guarantees families "access to adequate and affordable housing"
The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity stated in Ponta Delgada that the "Renovated Home, Inhabited Home" programme aims to respond to families in situations of severe housing shortage as well as to ensure the access to housing for those who do not find a response through the rental market.
Speaking after a hearing at the Committee on General Policy for discussion of the proposed Regional Legislative Decree on this programme, Andreia Cardoso pointed out that the proposal arises as an alternative to the current decree defining support for the recovery of degraded housing with "more and better benefits."
The "Renovated Home, Inhabited Home is an initiative of the Government of the Azores that includes two types of support for the recovery of degraded housing. It is part of a Regional Legislative Decree proposals approved by the Council of the Government and presented at the Legislative Assembly.
The proposal provides for two types of support. The "Renovate for Leasing" measure ensures the granting of financial support for renovation of vacant properties with conditions to be put on the rental market. In turn, the "Renovate for Living" measure provides for the allocation of financial support for the rehabilitation of residential properties.
"This is another strategy promoted by the Regional Government to efficiently respond to the housing needs of the Azoreans and provide them with adequate and affordable housing, while promoting the rehabilitation of degraded housing and the redevelopment of the urban environment," stressed the Regional Secretary.
"We expect that this programme be regarded as a political measure aimed at guaranteeing responses that are better suited to the challenges of our territory and are intended to support even more families, ensuring decent housing conditions and providing more responses in the rental market," said Andreia Cardoso.
