Azorean Government invests in partnerships for recovery of homes owned by needy families
The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity signed today a cooperation agreement with the Village Council of Ribeira Grande in the municipality of Ribeira Grande for the rehabilitation of 15 homes owned by needy families that are unable to manage funds.
"This cooperation agreement amounts to 67,613 Euros, of which 48,295 Euros are supported by the Government of the Azores, through the Regional Directorate for Housing. The allocation of this amount is intended to finance the purchase of construction materials, while the remaining sum corresponds to labour, which will be provided by the Village Council of Conceição," said Andreia Cardoso.
The main works are intended to ensure the minimum safety and health conditions, namely the improvement and adaptation of sanitary facilities and roofs.
The Regional Secretary revealed that, in this legislature, the Azorean Government has already supported the rehabilitation of 2,700 homes located on São Miguel, corresponding to an investment of six million Euros and a percentage close to 50% over the entire amount of support allocated to the recovery and rehabilitation of degraded housing.
"We are at a ceremony marking the union of efforts between the Government and a local authority to rehabilitate homes and the living conditions of beneficiary families," added Andreia Cardoso. The Regional Secretary mentioned that, since the beginning of the current legislative period, the Government has signed agreements to rehabilitate almost six hundred homes. This represents the allocation of about 2.7 million Euros, "to which we should add up what each partner, within its powers and resources, contributed to the implementation of partnership projects."
In the legislative period that is about to end, the Government also signed two cooperation agreements with this local authority, an investment amounting to 45 thousand Euros that will improve the housing conditions of about thirty families.
