Creation and improvement of social responses promote social cohesion, says Andreia Cardoso
The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity stated today in Santa Cruz das Flores that the creation of social responses or their improvement is also "a way to promote social and territorial cohesion."
Andreia Cardoso spoke at the ceremony of laying the first stone of the works for the renewal of Home Care Services and the expansion of the Elderly Home of "Santa Casa d Misericórdia" of Santa Cruz das Flores. The government official stressed that the Regional Government has awarded priority status to "the access to a wide range of goods and services on equal terms" and on all islands of the Region.
"The Government's concern regarding the Network of Social Infrastructures and Services focused on the improvement of existing responses and ensure that, under certain circumstances, our responses met the needs of some municipalities and islands," said the government official.
The Regional Secretary also stressed the Government's commitment, particularly in the development of proximity responses directed to the elderly, not only in terms of its physical implementation but also in the increase of services. In this regard, she recalled that home care services have been diversified, both in the provision of services and their frequency.
The work that now begins involves a public investment over 1.7 million Euros and comprises the renewal of home care services and the expansion of the elderly home. It will endow the institution with better conditions for the provision of personalised and individualised care, particularly in the fulfilment of basic and/or daily needs.
This intervention, included in the Regional Public Works Charter, should be completed within a year.
