Government promotes awareness and information sessions on domestic violence for journalists
The Regional Secretariat for Labour and Social Solidarity, through the Regional Directorate for Solidarity and Social Security, in a partnership with the Union of Journalists of the Azores will organise two workshops on domestic violence on July 20, one to be held in the morning and the other in the afternoon.
Being addressed at regional journalists, this initiative is integrated in the Regional Plan to Prevent and Combat Domestic Violence in the Azores, which includes the organisation of specific awareness and information sessions with the aim of approaching and mobilising regional journalists for the issues of domestic violence.
Therefore, this initiative is intended to enhance the informative and reflective role of the media in the social construction of the reality concerning the fight against domestic violence.
The workshops will take place at the Ponta Delgada Public Library at 9 AM and will count on the participation of the chairman of the Ethics Council of the Union of Journalists, Orlando César, the representative of the Union of Journalists of the Azores, Bárbara Almeida, and the trainer of the Ponta Delgada Support Centre for Women, Sandra Furtado.
“Gender equality in the media,” “Myths and domestic violence,” “Support services for domestic violence victims – the referral” and “Domestic violence victims and safety” will be the main themes addressed at both workshops.
