Residents of Milagres and Piedade Jovem Neighbourhoods in Arrifes may apply for a competition intended to award 70 plots for community gardens.
The information was provided today by the Regional Secretary for Labour and Social Solidarity during the signing of the consignment record for the constructions works for the implementation of infrastructures in this neighbourhood.
According to the government official, this initiative will be firstly implemented in Arrifes Neighbourhood to be built.
The "Casa do Povo" of Arrifes will be in charge for managing this project, selecting families wish to grow a small community garden, which will also contribute to improving the income of these households.
Ana Paula Marques also stressed that the Government, in partnership with other institutions, has already created various community gardens throughout the Region, such as the case of S. Pedro Neighbourhood in Maia and the S. Pedro Neighbourhood in Lomba de S. Pedro, both located in the municipality of Ribeira Grande.
Presently, the Government is preparing the allocation of more plots for community gardens in the villages of São Roque, Livramento, Fajã de Cima and Capelas in the municipality of Ponta Delgada.
As the government official added, this project will be extended to other islands, also on land owned by the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
