Government creates accessible tourism programme - "Azores for All Ages"

The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity signed today in Angra do Heroísmo a protocol with Atlânticoline for the creation of an accessible tourism programme "Azores for all Ages," an initiative aimed at EU citizens aged over 65 years and people with a degree of disability higher than 60%.

Speaking to journalists at the end of the ceremony, Andreia Cardoso ensured that the Regional Government is aware of the limitations that the people with reduced mobility face, stating that "this is precisely what motivated us to take the initiative and, in conjunction with Atlânticoline, share the costs associated with these services."

Citizens benefiting from this programme who wish to travel by sea between the islands on the ships "Express Santorini" and "Hellenic Wind" will have the opportunity to purchase a ticket for any destination, selected from the ship's ports of call, for the price of 7.50 Euros per route.

"The motivation of all parties is essential," stressed the Regional Secretary, who ensured the Government's commitment. However, she reminded the "importance of motivating all partners to keep this dynamics and succeed against the trends of an important market for us, but that still faces some constraints."
