Government of the Azores has already begun recovery work of dwellings affected by bad weather
The Azorean Government has already begun the recovery works of the dwellings affected by bad weather.
The announcement was made this afternoon in São Roque by the Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity during the visit to some houses damaged by the storm of December 14.
Andreia Cardoso revealed that, during the last week the services "carried out a comprehensive survey of intervention needs, not only in terms of repair works but also in terms of furniture damage and household appliances of first necessity." It has been possible, together with municipal authorities, to begin the recovery works of houses and acquire the goods that will be replaced.
"We are talking about 41 dwellings in need of repair and 18 cases in need of basic appliances," the Regional Secretary said, stressing that the survey is yet to be complete.
Andreia Cardoso estimated that the damage to dwellings that has been identified so far may represent a public investment of about 170 thousand Euros; the amount is subject to further assessment.
According to the Regional Secretary, the Regional Government's priority is to fix the situation as soon as possible so that people may live the Christmas season "with their families in an atmosphere of normalcy."
