Government of the Azores marks International Day of People with Disabilities throughout the Region
The Regional Secretariat for Social Solidarity, through the Regional Directorate for Social Solidarity, promotes a series of initiatives to mark the International Day of People with Disabilities in collaboration with the Centre of Initiatives for the Prevention and Combat to Domestic Violence of the "Santa Casa da Misericórdia" of Praia da Vitória.
On Friday and Saturday, there will be several awareness-raising actions in the form of "Adapted Circuit," through several simulated contexts in which participants experience will experience of deprivation of physical or mental capacities. This will allow the public in general to step into the shoes of a person with disabilities.
The activities will be developed in conjunction with partner entities of the 2nd Regional Plan for Prevention and Combat to Domestic and Gender Violence, besides other community organisations. They are primarily intended to raise the awareness of society for the rights of people with disabilities, promote their inclusion and right to equal opportunities, and prevent violence.
