The Regional Secretariat for Social Solidarity, through the Regional Directorate for Social Solidarity and the Azores Social Security Institute, promotes today a Sports Fair in Maia, following the work carried out by the Local Development and Social Cohesion Centre of Ribeira Grande.
"Similarly to what happens in a family environment, preschool and school contexts are essential in the establishment of rules as well as in the recognition and respect for the individuality and the rights of children," stressed the Regional Social Solidarity Secretary at the opening of the event.
This activity covers about two hundred children and young people from the eastern part of the municipality of Ribeira Grande. It aims to promote health and healthy lifestyles to prevent exposure to social risks.
In this regard, there are several spaces adapted to the practice of sport as well as spaces dedicated to information and awareness of participants for the topics addressed in this initiative.
For Andreia Cardoso, "the creation of reliable connections, the respect for educators and educational assistants and the creation of a positive environment where children feel safe and stimulated are decisive contributions to their life in a society where tolerance and respect are valuable attributes."
The initiative falls within the "Maia - Healthy Fitness Zone" project takes places at the Football Field and at Maia Basic Education School. It is supported by the Regional Directorates for Health and Education and the "Casa do Povo" of Maia, involving the collaboration of several local entities.
