Government of the Azores supports over 300 social responses aimed at childhood and youth
The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity revealed in Angra do Heroísmo that the Government of the Azores supports over three hundred social responses aimed at childhood and youth, involving more than 9,500 children and young people throughout the archipelago.
Andreia Cardoso spoke at the presentation of the rehabilitation project of the Community Centre and Free Time Activity Centre of Confederação Operária Terceirense. She stressed that the effective coverage rate for these responses in the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo is already higher than the European recommendations.
"It is with great pride that we can say today that the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo largely exceeds this figure, with an effective coverage rate for the Free Time Activity Centres are higher than recommended," said the government official.
The project presented today concerns a Community Centre and Free Time Activity Centre with capacity for 46 children, an investment of about one million Euros that is included in the Regional Public Works Charter.
The Regional Secretary stressed that this "investment falls within a resource optimisation logic that, in addition to providing the existing response with the appropriate structural conditions for its operation, contributes to the preservation of building heritage."
For Andreia Cardoso, this also "should be a responsibility of social intervention", i.e., "ensuring the quality of buildings and actively contributing to the revitalisation of historic centres."
"Development does not occur overnight," Andreia Cardoso said, adding that "is a gradual process that has accompanied us and accompanies us on a daily basis, which will gradually lead to the full implementation of the Network of Social Services and Infrastructures.
