Government of the Azores to maintain support measures for the recovery of degraded housing, says Andreia Cardoso
The Government of the Azores allocated today support for the rehabilitation of degraded housing and termite-affected housing to 27 families residing in the municipalities of Angra do Heroísmo and Praia da Vitória, a public investment of nearly 340 thousand Euros.
The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity, who presided over the ceremony, highlighted the Regional Government's intention to "continue this type of support and, whenever possible, reinforce it."
Andreia Cardoso considers that it is "fundamental" to stipulate criteria as well as to supervise the implementation of these support measures and redistribution of funds resulting from the taxes paid by all Azoreans. She noted that these measures do not involve any Community funds; they are exclusively funded by the Regional Budget.
"With regard to the distribution of public resources, resulting from the tax paid by each and every one of us, it is fundamental to stipulate criteria in the allocation of funds and, consequently, supervise their implementation," stressed the Regional Secretary.
The support now granted covers 80 people from 13 villages in the municipalities of Angra do Heroísmo and Praia da Vitória. This investment improves the housing conditions of beneficiary families in terms of safety and conditions, while contributing to the preservation of the island's housing stock.
