Investing in social responses is an option taken by the Government, says Andreia Cardoso
The Regional Secretary for Social Solidarity stated today that the investment in social responses is a clear option of the Regional Government that has drawn its full attention to the provision of responses in accordance with the specific needs of each island.
"The only way to address social needs is to create social services and responses," Andreia Cardoso said, stressing that the Government has signed protocols with over 270 institutions in the archipelago, which has allowed the provision of nearly 700 social responses. According to her, these agreements "evidence the attention the Regional Government has drawn to socials issues."
The Regional Secretary spoke at the signing ceremony of the public deed for the acquisition of the land required for the construction of social infrastructures in the village of Feteira on the island of Faial. The purchase of land was carried out through a development contract that was signed between the regional administration and the local administration (ARAAL contract), representing a public investment of 170 thousand Euros.
"The construction of social facilities is necessary when there are social needs. It does not happen to meet investment needs on a certain island. It happens because there are social needs and, in this case, we want the address the social needs of the population living in the municipality of Horta," said Andreia Cardoso.
The land purchased today is intended for the construction of an intergenerational space that will be specifically dedicated to younger generations and the elderly. The Regional Government expects to launch the contract work in the first quarter of 2016.
